Palisades/Squaw is great, but the parking lot does fill up so you want to make sure you leave with plenty of time. There will be significant traffic between Tahoe City and the mountain pretty much every weekend. But if you don't make it into the Squaw lots, you can always try for Alpine, as its right next door. Kirkwood is the best skiing in the area IMHO. It is remote though. Flying into Reno is your best bet but Sacramento is not too bad if you're able to get a good flight deal. For advanced skiers squaw, kirkwood or mammoth (not really tahoe) are the way to go.
